CHPA Application & Renewal

IAHSS maintains the prestigious Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) certification, the standard for the healthcare security leader dedicated to the profession. The mark of "CHPA" is awarded to candidates who meet the qualifying criteria and pass a comprehensive certification examination. It affirms the competency these practitioners have demonstrated in the field of healthcare security. The IAHSS Commission on Certification is the governing body of the CHPA credential. Learn More.

Program of Distinction Application & Renewal

IAHSS recognizes outstanding qualifying healthcare security and safety departments with the Program of Distinction. Hospitals / Facilities qualify for the Program of Distinction by achieving and maintaining a minimum level of certified officers, managers and directors within their security department. IAHSS Foundation Recognition Program 

The general purpose of the IAHSS Foundation Recognition Program is to recognize and promote overall excellence and outstanding contributions to the IAHSS Foundation, the IAHSS and to the field of healthcare security, safety and emergency management. Learn More.

Process

1. Register (Non-Member)

Click on the "User Login" button, click the "Create an Account" link then complete and submit the registration form. Note: If you are already a member please skip this step. 

2. Login

Click on the "User Login" button to log in to the portal using your IAHSS Member username and password.

3. Create

From your Dashboard, create your online submission.

4. Save

Your submission can be saved as DRAFT until all the required information is completed and attachments uploaded. As each section is complete, you will see a appear in the category tab when the application is saved. At any time, you can download and print your submission by clicking on the icon in the Submission Summary section.

5. Submit

On completion, save your Submission as FINAL. Download and print a copy of your submission for your records by clicking on the icon in the Submission Summary section in the right column. Note: If an update is required prior to the Call for Submission period, you can make the update and resave as FINAL.

Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator Application & Recertification

IAHSS maintains the prestigious Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) certification, the standard for the healthcare security leader dedicated to the profession. The mark of "CHPA" is awarded to candidates who meet the qualifying criteria and pass a comprehensive certification examination. It affirms the competency these practitioners have demonstrated in the field of healthcare security. The IAHSS Commission on Certification is the governing body of the CHPA credential.

IAHSS shall admit candidates without regard to age, sex, race, color, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status to all rights, privileges, programs, and examinations. IAHSS will not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, color, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status in the administration of its certification and recertification policies.

This application contains information regarding the IAHSS CHPA certification process. To avoid problems in processing your application, it is important that you follow the directions and comply with required deadlines. Application Instructions

  • Applications submitted incorrectly or without required documentation will be returned unprocessed.
  • Carefully read these instructions and each section of the application. Complete each area of the application. You must document the minimum number of credits. Report all information on this form and attach documentation identified by Part 1, 2, 3 and 4 which correlate to the section(s) for which you are claiming the credit(s). A minimum of 20 credits is required; please review the minimum required credits (if any) for each category.
  • The CHPA application fee is $450 for IAHSS Members and $525 for Non-members. Payment and all required documentation must be received at the time of application submission. Allow 45 days for the application evaluation process. The evaluation will take longer if required documentation is missing from the initial application.
  • If your application is approved, you will receive an email with further instructions including recommended study material. If your application is not approved, IAHSS will return the application, attachments, and the application fee (less a $50 administrative processing fee) along with a written explanation of the reason(s) for denial.

Recertification Instructions

  • Applications submitted incorrectly or without required documentation, or that are submitted more than 90 days before the renewal date, will be returned unprocessed.
  • Carefully read these instructions and each section of the application. Complete each area of the application. You must document the minimum number of credits. Report all information on this form and attach documentation identified by Part 1, 2, 3 and 4 which correlate to the section(s) for which you are claiming the credit(s).
  • A minimum of 40 credits is required for recertification; of the 40 credits, 30 must come from the Continuing Education category. The remaining 10 credits may come from any combination of Experience, Professional Development or Membership.
  • The CHPA recertification fee is $150 for IAHSS Members and $175 for Non-members. Payment and all required documentation must be received at the time of application submission. Allow 45 days for the application evaluation process. The evaluation will take longer if required documentation is missing from the application.
  • If your completed application and payment are not received in the IAHSS office by your CHPA renewal date, you may be required to retake the CHPA certification examination and achieve a passing score in order to retain your certification. This would require completing the CHPA application (not the recertification application) and submitting the full fee of $450 for IAHSS Members, $525 Non-members.
  • If your recertification application is approved, you will receive a letter indicating your next recertification date. If your application is not approved, IAHSS will return the application, attachments, and the application fee less a $50 administrative processing fee, along with a written explanation of the reason(s) for denial.
